   CONSTITUTION

 


   SOUTH AFRICAN SOCIETY OF ULTRASOUND IN OBSTETRICS & GYNAECOLOGY CONSTITUTION

 

  1. TITLE

The Society shall be know as "The South African Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynaecology" (SASUOG).

  1. OBJECTIVES

The objects of the Society are:

  1. To act as a forum for indepth analysis and presentation of advances in ultrasound diagnosis in all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

  2. To be an influential body setting standards for medical training and monitoring the safety of ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

  3. To look after the interests and needs of ultrasound scanners in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

  4. To accomplish the above objectives, regular workshops, seminars and Congresses should be held.

  1. MEMBERSHIP

  1. Full members:

All doctors who are interested in any aspects of ultrasound imaging in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.  In the first instance this will be doctors who are personally doing ultrasound scanning in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or who plan to do it.  At the same time the Society would welcome doctors and scientists whose knowledge and expertise are essential to a proper understanding of ultrasound.

  1. Associate members:

Radiographers, sonographers and midwives with a special interest in ultrasound in Obstetrics may become associate members.

Members will be expected to pay an annual membership fee and if they are in arrears for longer than one year, their membership could be suspended.

  1. COMMITTEE

A Committee of six members will be elected. Initially the six members could be elected by open voting at the inaugural meeting but when the Society is established, they should be elected by postal voting amongst full members who are not in arrears with their membership.

Not more than three members should come from the same geographic region (based on SASUOG geographic regions).  At least four of the six committee members must be obstetricians and gynaecologists.  The President of the SASOG will be ex-officio the president of SASUOG.

The committee should choose a chairman and a secretary / treasurer at the first committee meeting after they have been elected.

The committee will have the power to co-opt additional members for specific purposes and for specific periods.

 

 

  1. DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE

The committee shall be responsible for the every day running of the Society and for promoting the objects of the Society.

If the committee deems necessary, it shall have the power to acquire funds for specific purposes through membership fees ; or by accepting donations, grants or requests; or by organising ultrasound meetings; or by any other lawful means.

  1. VOTING

All matters before the Society or before the committee shall be decided by voting; by show of hands of those present, except where any member requests a secret ballot.  A simple majority will suffice.

    7.   DISSOLUTION

The Society may be dissolved by a resolution passed with a two third majority of members present at any meeting.  Any funds in the Society will revert to SASOG.

    8.   MEETINGS

The General Meeting of the Society shall be held, as far as practical, during the SASOG Congress.

The General Meeting of the Society may be held from time to time at the discretion of the committee and shall be called by the committee on the written request of three members of the Society.

The quorum of a General Meeting shall consist of ten members including three of the committee in office.

    9.   SUBSCRIPTIONS

The annual subscription shall be payable by members of the Society to provide funds for the carrying out of the work of the Society an shall be due on the 1st June of each year.  The amount of the subscription will be determined by the committee.

    10. REFERENDUM

It shall be competent for the executive committee to ascertain by referendum the opinions of members of the Society on any matter it considers important enough to warrant such action.

    11. ALTERATIONS TO THE CONSTITUTION

Any members wishing to move any alteration in the constitution of the Society shall do so by giving notice of motion, in writing, at least one month before the General Meeting.
